Our Community
Congregants are invited to participate on a variety of committees to enhance our synagogue community and our larger community as well.
Committees
Ritual Committee
The Ritual Committee works with Rabbi Michelle to plan worship services and holiday celebrations.
Membership Committee
The Membership Committee welcomes new Jewish individuals and families to our community and new members to our congregation.
Religious School Board
This committee works with our Rabbi and our Religious School staff to plan and support educational programs for our Religious School.
Tzedek Committee
Our mission: The B’nai Israel Synagogue Social Action/Social Justice Committee is inspired by Jewish tradition to create a better world by working together in a spirit of respect and compassion to advance the causes of peace, equality, environmental stewardship and protection, and human rights by:
- Providing leadership for local Jewish social action and social justice programs.
- Advancing positive relationships between the local Jewish community and other community groups including other faith communities.
- Educating members of the B’nai Israel Synagogue congregation, local community leaders and the larger community regarding social justice issues important to the Jewish community.
- Articulating to the Jewish and the general community that for Jews, acts of social justice are mitzvot, commanded by Jewish law and tradition.
- Performing Jewish-centered social justice activities that advocate on behalf of the poor and marginalized in society.
- Protecting the environment through initiatives consistent with Jewish values.
Budget and Finance Committee
The Budget and Finance Committee prepares the annual budget and oversees finances for the synagogue.
House Committee
The House Committee oversees all building improvement and maintenance projects.
